35-year-old Joshua Wirgau Pleads Guilty to Charges in Death Of Two Women
On Thursday, one of two men charged in the killings of two women in northern Michigan pled guilty to lesser charges in exchange for agreeing to cooperate with the prosecution of his co-defendant.
Prosecutors say 35-year-old Joshua Wirgau of Alpena, Michigan, admitted to being an accessory after the fact in the deaths of two people and the disinterment and mutilation of a dead body.
A sentencing agreement requests 15-30 years in prison, prosecutors said. Wirgau has decided to help the prosecution prove the case against 37-year-old Alpena resident Brad Srebnik, who is accused of five crimes, including the first-degree murder of 17-year-old Brynn Bills and 31-year-old Abby Hill.
Srebnick's legal representation and whether or not he has entered a plea in the case remain unknown. The case's court records weren't available online, and Nessel didn't respond to reporters' inquiries about them in her press release.
Bills was last seen in August 2021. Prosecutors claim that Wirgau discovered her death in his yard in Alpena Township the next month.
The body of 34-year-old Hill was discovered in a rural area near the town. According to Nessel's office, she knew what happened to Bills and was murdered so that she wouldn't speak out.
The prosecution has not provided a motive for Bills' murder.
