"Abuse thrives on silence, and we are here to make the loudest noise,"- Document Women CEO Kiki Mordi on Social Media Doxxing
Document Women has reiterated its commitment to advocating for women's rights and chronicling violations and abuses against women.
These statements have been in light of the recent bullying Document Women staff have been exposed to following an article exposing emotional abuse on DSTV'S hit reality TV show, Big Brother Naija.
Kiki Mordi, the CEO of Document Women, published a thread on Twitter in response and solidarity with the DW staff.
"Ever since @DocumentWomen made this post highlighting what emotional abuse looks like on screen & offscreen, several of the amazing people that work - or that have associated - w/ Document Women have faced depraved level bullying, doxxing, abuse and death threats," Ms Mordi tweeted on Saturday.
In the thread, Ms Mordi called attention to some of the threatening calls and messages that DW staff had received since an article on emotional abuse, centring two housemates on the show, Bella and Sheggz, was published.
Ms Mordi lauded the writer and further commented on how the bullying faced by the editor, her and the DW team is a reminder that harassment can take on digital forms contrary to popularly held beliefs.
The feminist media organisation, in collaboration with Gatefield International, Palladium and USAID, has been running a campaign pushing for the Digital Rights and Freedom Bill to be passed by Nigerian legislators. The proposed legislation will provide punitive measures around digital harassment, especially on social media apps like Twitter.
