Commonwealth Games: Olarinoye wins Nigeria’s first gold medal, Sets New Commonwealth Record

Nigeria's Olarinoye Adenike Adijat has won Nigeria’s first gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Olarinoye recorded a total of 203kg, setting the new Commonwealth Games record.

Nigeria currently sits ninth on the medals table with Australia leading the charts with 13 gold, eight silver and 11 bronze. In second position is New Zealand with seven gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

Host country England is third with five gold medals, 12 silver and four bronze.

Later today, Nigeria's Rafiatu Lawal will be competing in the women’s 59kg weightlifting at NEC Hall 1.
