Family Alleges Negligence in Rebekah Sekidika's Death After Surgery in Port Harcourt
Following a surgery in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, Rebekah Sekidika, a first-class graduate of Benson Idahosa University in Benin City, Edo State, passed away. Her family said that they had obtained police consent to bury her body.
The girl's father, Sampson Sekidika, who works for Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, stated that the doctors and nurses at the Paragon Clinics and Image Diagnosis in Port Harcourt were negligent and incompetent when they performed the procedure on his daughter, who was 24 years old, on February 2, 2024.
He was saddened that the victim had been accepted into a master's degree course in the UK and was scheduled to fly only days before the tragic event that took her life and wanted redress. While they awaited the results, Sekidika informed reporters on Sunday that an autopsy had been conducted on the body of their daughter. He said that they had obtained the police's authorization to bury her remains.
He stated, “An autopsy was performed on Thursday and samples sent to two independent medical centres for the toxicology test. Full reports will be made available in not more than a month’s time when all the results are available.
“I applied to the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal and Investigation Department for the release of the corpse to the family for burial. The police have granted me the permission to bury." “Burial has been slated for March 2, 2024 at the Vaults and Gardens Cemetery, Port Harcourt.”
Sekidika has stated his intention to see the case through to its conclusion, even after Rebekah's burial, in order to guarantee that those responsible for her murder are brought to justice by arresting and punishing them.
