Fraymedia Foundation Launches the Women Media Mentors (WMM) Programme

By Azeezat Okunlola | Nov 9, 2023

The fraymedia Foundation, a pioneering non-profit championing the empowerment of women in the media, is pleased to announce the launch of its Women Media Mentors (WMM) Programme. Set against the backdrop of South Africa's dynamic media landscape, the programme is an earnest call to seasoned women business and media professionals to guide, nurture, and uplift the next generation of female leaders.

“At fraymedia Foundation, we believe in the transformative power of mentorship. With the WMM Programme, we aim to fortify the media industry, ensuring that women's voices are not just heard but also pivotal in shaping the industry’s future,” said Charmeela Bhagowat, Interim CEO of fraymedia.

"It's more than mentorship. It's about laying the groundwork for a more diverse, inclusive, and ethical media landscape,” she said.

The foundation, established in 2022, has dedicated itself to bolstering the representation and influence of women in media both within South Africa and throughout the SADC region. Its commitment to fostering democracy, diversity, and the unyielding spirit of women is evident in the tangible support they provide. From offering grants, hosting networking forums, facilitating education and training to enterprise and organisational development support, the foundation's multi-pronged approach is a testament to its vision of a balanced media environment.

Now, with the introduction of the WMM Programme, the fraymedia Foundation is taking a significant step forward. The programme invites women who have broken barriers, shaped narratives, and driven change in both business and media arenas to sign up as mentors. Concurrently, the initiative also seeks mentees – emerging women leaders poised to redefine media's future contours.

“This is an unparalleled opportunity for knowledge exchange, growth, and collaborative advancement. Together, we can craft a media landscape where women are not on the fringes but at the very core of its evolution,” said Bhagowat.

For those inspired to be part of this transformative journey either as mentors or mentees, sign-ups are now open. Women leaders willing to participate as mentors can sign up here.
