#FreePalestine: Women of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Protest War Crimes Against Gaza

Women in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighborhood of the city have flocked to the streets to protest Israel and its western backers for their continued war crimes in Gaza.

Adressing the demonstration, JI Karachi Chief, Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman urged the crowd to speak out in support of the oppressed Palestinians who have suffered enormous human losses at the hands of the Zionist government and to donate to the Red Crescent.

He blasted America, Britain, and Europe for their unwavering backing of Israel's war crimes in Gaza. He used the word "paradoxical" to describe the western world's approach to human rights.

Hospitals in Gaza have been destroyed by airstrikes and have been left without basic supplies after being cut off by the Israeli government.

About half a hundred thousand women and girls in Gaza are expecting and may not receive antenatal care or have access to necessary medical supplies due to a lack of power and infrastructure. These worries are echoed in a fast gender analysis of the situation conducted by the United Nations.

Health improvements in Palestine will be jeopardized as a result of the crisis, especially with regards to maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity.

Women and girls are often at heightened risk of sexual violence during times of armed conflict, but there is limited data on current patterns in Gaza. Sexual assault victims require rapid help, including access to healthcare for injuries and STDs, as well as emergency contraception and therapy to lessen the likelihood of HIV transmission.

They also require psychological aid in addition to sexual and reproductive health care. These requirements are unlikely to be completed in full as the healthcare system in Gaza struggles to treat the thousands of Palestinians injured by Israeli bombings.

Mothers and female representatives of civil society groups gathered in Ankara to protest outside the UNICEF and UN Turkey Office. They came together under the name "Ankara Mothers Platform of Palestine's Friends" to voice their outrage at the ongoing atrocities in Gaza and to demand swift action from the international community.

On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the United Nations, these mothers and their children gathered to demand an end to Israel's genocide of Palestinian women and children in Gaza.

They voiced doubts about the UN's ability to effectively respond to the crisis. Even though the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council have the right to veto any resolution that threatens international peace and security, the council has rarely been able to put its vetoes to good use. Protesters called attention to the UN's inability to effectively enforce international law and order due to the current composition of the Security Council and the need for reform.

The protesters said that the ideals of fairness, pluralism, and equality among nations were violated by the concentration of veto power in the hands of a few. By using the veto, council members can set the agenda and make decisions that benefit themselves, even if doing so could be detrimental to the greater good.
