IGP orders investigation into Professor Zainab Abiola over assaulted police orderly

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali, has mandated a comprehensive investigation into Professor Zainab Duke and her accomplices for the attack on Inspector Teju Moses, her police orderly.

After public outrage following the online circulation of pictures of the policewoman's battery, Force Spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi made the announcement in a release on Thursday.

Mr Adejobi stated that Ms Duke, a self-acclaimed human rights activist, had no actual relationship with the inspector general, despite her claims.

“It is pertinent to clarify that the suspect, Professor Zainab, who name-drops the IGP, his family members and other police officers in the top hierarchy of the Force has no acquaintance with the police in any form as erroneously peddled on social media,” Mr Adejobi stated.

On Tuesday, the police orderly living with the professor in Garki, Abuja was assaulted for refusing to perform household chores despite being told that doing so would be a violation of her official duty.

Ms Duke then instructed her other housekeepers, Rebecca Eneichido and an unidentified man, to assault the police inspector. Ms Duke and her maid, Rebecca, are currently in police custody while the male accomplice remains on the loose, as pointed out by Mr Adejobi.

In March, a clip featuring a police officer assigned as protection to Dr Nimota Nihilola Akanbi, the newly appointed pioneer Chairman of the National Secondary School Education Commission (NSSEC), went viral and provoked a lot of negative comments online. While she shared pleasantries  with other attendees at a weekend gathering in Ilorin, Kwara state, her police orderly, in full police regalia, followed her around with a tray of food.
