Indonesian Minister Urges Collaboration in the Defence of Women and Children
Bintang Puspayoga, minister of women's empowerment and child protection, has advocated for partnerships between the academia and the government to better the lives of children and women.
"Let's synergize, fight for gender equality, and provide a just space for women in various aspects of life. We move and step up together to realize Golden Indonesia 2045," she said, according to a statement released by the ministry here on Tuesday.
She made the statements during the inauguration of several rooms at Ahmad Dahlan Institute of Technology and Business (ITB-AD) in South Tangerang, including a lactation room, the Secretariat Room for the Centre for Islam, Women, and Development Studies (PSIPP), and the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS).
"We hope that today's inauguration is not only ceremonial, but (the facilities) can function as well as possible," the minister added.
She maintained that the issue of women and children necessitates involvement from all sectors due to its complexity.
She continued by saying that there is still a gender disparity in data, even if laws and policies are in place to protect women and children and promote gender equality.
She commended ITB-AD for its initiative to establish a PKKS and provide room for lactation. In an attempt to address and prevent sexual violence, the PPKS was established at ITB-AD.
The South Tangerang city government and Puspayoga also worked together to distribute zakat to victims of violence, including women and children. Puspayoga lauded their partnership and synergy.
"We appreciate the ITB-AD's Center for Islam, Women, and Development Studies (PSIPP) for its various commitments to women's empowerment and child protection work," she added.
According to the minister, the centre has been instrumental in the nation's advancement, bringing about numerous advances. Regarding government programs and policies pertaining to women and children, she expressed hope that the ITB-AD academic community would maintain its support.
