Chinhat police in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, have arrested a man named Tayyab Ansari on charges of rape and deceit. The victim claims that Ansari sexually assaulted her while pretending to be a Congress MP and then offered her a seat in parliament if she cooperated.

Using the promise of marriage as a cover, the victim claimed that Ansari had deceived her and extorted her. Tayyab Ansari, 52, of Madianv Mohibullahpur, was reported missing after a complaint was filed about him. ACP (East) Syed Ali Abbas confirmed that he was taken into custody on Friday, January 13 at a hotel called the Moti Mahal in the city of Bareilly.

According to the police, the woman claimed that Tayyab Ansari alias M T Hasan posed as a member of the Congress party in the Rajya Sabha. He managed to persuade her of his stellar reputation and powerful ties to the party's upper echelons. He claimed that he could use his influence with the Congress's top brass to secure her a seat in the lower house of parliament, known as the Lok Sabha.

Under the pretence that he would secure a Lok Sabha seat for her, he persisted in exploiting the woman sexually. The complainant further stated that he had taken money from the woman. The victim didn't learn about him until a long time had passed. The victim then went to the Chinhat police station to file a formal complaint.

The police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against him under Indian Penal Code sections 120B, 376, 328, 342, 506, 406, and 420. After Tayyab Ansari vanished, the police began looking for him.
