Miracle Blaise has been announced as the winner of the Storytellers for Change Film Grant. In September, Melanin Unscripted, in collaboration with The Cervical Cancer Free Nigeria Campaign, initiated this groundbreaking grant of $10,000 to empower Nigerian filmmakers in addressing the critical issue of cervical cancer as part of the Rise in Light campaign.

Miracle Blaise, from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria, emerged as the winner, showcasing an unwavering dedication to exploring the foundations of humanity through his impactful work in filmmaking. Notably, his short films, such as "Magic Seed Vandi," "The Sea Was a Hollow," and "Apparition," underscore his adeptness at navigating the intricacies of the human experience.

Miracle’s envisioned story aims to explore human relationships as a support system in the fight against cervical cancer, intending to evoke empathy and understanding in viewers. He emphasizes the urgency, stating, “The intended story will seek to explore human relationships as a support system for the fight against cervical cancer. Building on human moments, I intend to explore the empathy of the viewers in the various elements of the story. To relay a visual journey that informs you, side by side, a journey that can call to your emotions. As a filmmaker in Nigeria, I feel honored to share knowledge of cervical cancer prevention, treatment, and the strength of women’s support, especially in the grossly under-informed regions of Africa.”

Amarachi Nwosu, CEO of Melanin Unscripted and an accomplished filmmaker, had expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Storytellers for Change is a visionary initiative dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices and stories, serving as a catalyst for diverse narratives and empowering creators from all backgrounds."

The Storytellers for Change Grant presented an exciting opportunity for filmmakers to utilize their creative talents in driving awareness and change on the pressing public health concern of cervical cancer. With Cervical cancer ranking as the 2nd most frequent cancer among women in Nigeria, the initiative aimed to shed light on this significant health challenge that, despite being largely preventable, continues to impact thousands of lives.

Miracle Blaise's win was determined through a rigorous selection process, involving collaboration with a distinguished panel of judges. This panel included Emmy-nominated investigative journalist and filmmaker Kiki Mordi, Ozi Menakaya: Film & TV Agent at CAA, Amarachi Nwosu: award-winning filmmaker and CEO of Melanin Unscripted, and Tunde Onakoya: Social Entrepreneur and founder of Chess in Slums.

The Storytellers for Change Grant attracted widespread support from prominent organizations, including Global Oncology, UN Global Goals, Document Women, Family Inc., and LLandB. This collaborative effort aimed to create an equitable and representative landscape, celebrating diverse talents and impactful stories, beginning with the focus on cervical cancer awareness.

The winner announcement marks a significant milestone in the fight against cervical cancer, as Miracle Blaise's talent and dedication will undoubtedly contribute to creating a powerful narrative that resonates with audiences worldwide.
