Court Sentences Lagos Doctor Olufemi Olaleye To Life Imprisonment For Raping Wife's Niece
The Ikeja Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court has pronounced a verdict of guilt against Olufemi Olaleye, the medical director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, for raping his wife's niece.
In delivering the judgment on Tuesday, Justice Rahman Oshodi convicted the doctor on two charges: child defilement and sexual assault involving a 15-year-old minor. He underscored the credibility of both the victim's testimony and the statements of the medical professional who examined her.
Furthermore, the judge emphasized that Mr. Olaleye's own confessional statement and the exchange of WhatsApp and email messages with his wife constituted substantial evidence against him. Relying on this evidence, along with the records from the statement and the undertaking he signed at the Anthony Police Station with his lawyer Olalekan Buruji and his NBA seal, Mr. Oshodi concluded that the victim had indeed been subjected to rape and fellatio.
In his final ruling, Justice Oshodi affirmed that the prosecution had convincingly established the case beyond any reasonable doubt, with all evidence presented to the court aligning with the victim's account. Consequently, he ordered that the defendant be subject to concurrent life imprisonment for both counts one and two.
As per the prosecution's assertion, the committed offenses violated Sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
During the trial, the defendant's wife, Aderemi Olaleye, informed the court that her husband had been sexually abusing her niece while she stayed with them.
She testified that the defendant initially introduced pornography and oral sex to the victim. This pattern began in March 2020 and continued until July 2021.
The witness recounted to Justice Oshodi that the young girl had confided in a relative and their driver, revealing that the doctor had been engaging in sexual activities with her and had threatened to harm her and the witness if she disclosed the incidents to anyone.
